Writing Pointers

Okay. So, you found our website and have spent some time reviewing the pages before the "Pointers" page.  Whether you are considering the review of a manuscript or school paper or even a speech, please take the time to inspect it with a fine tooth comb before you consider spending money on editing and/or proofreading services.

What does that mean? Are we telling you to make sure there are no mistakes before you send it to us? That we are intending to turn away your business?

Absolutely not! What we are trying to tell you is to spend the time, and rip the manuscript apart, unmercifully, before you spend any money on an edit. There is no such thing as rushing through a manuscript. Read it, edit it, and then place it on the shelf for a week or two, or even a month. Then, once again, pull it out and grab that red pen. Each time that you reach for that manuscript on the shelf, it gets better. Continue this practice until you have reached the point that you can no longer make story flow changes, and it looks as grammatically perfect, as possible. Watch for slow moving, unnecessary sentences, redundancies, watch for overused words.

Every extra moment that you spend with your manuscript serves to make it better. You want text that flows. A baker would not and could not rush through the preparation of a recipe. The writer needs to take the time to nurture the text that he/she is creating.

Once you have completed this process, you are then ready to edit that story, novel, book, or paper.

We are more than happy to assist you with your project, but editing and other services can be costly. In order to get the most for your money, you need to invest additional time into your manuscript. Of course, we are more that happy to help you, at any time, along your writing path, but we want you to know that you can save money, and time, by the initial preparation of the documents.

If you have questions we are here to assist you. Please feel free to contact us.
